It is made from Aspero cotton—a wild-growing cotton from the foothills of the Andes in Peru. Aspero grows on trees, is harvested by hand, and can't be mass-produced, resulting in a product whose fibers are organic, natural, dry, and incredibly thick.
The fabric is knitted in the Japanese Kanekichi Wakayama workshop, one of only two workshops in the world still operating the tubular textile production machines that have been in use for over 100 years, allowing seamless garments to be made. The only tension used in the knitting process is gravity, resulting in a fabric with virtually no inbuilt stress or tension. A loopwheel machine rotates at just 24 revolutions per minute, producing only 8-10 garments' worth of fabric per day. A modern knitting machine produces more than 10 times that amount. The result is a heavyweight, soft yet strong fabric, and the best sweatshirt material made today.
It features a round ribbed neck and is cut sideways to allow for some stretch. This built-to-last sweatshirt is soft on the inside and resistant on the outside. The fabric has been woven slightly tighter than traditional loopwheeled sweatshirt fabrics to make it more windproof.
